This page contains information on the modules of study completed in the final year of my Computer Games Programming BSc (Honours) degree at the University of Derby.

In the final year we were encouraged to research into some of the more advanced themes associated with programming. Below, more detail on some of the key modules can be found.

Applied Research Project (Dissertation)

For my yearlong research project, I studied and compared the differences between UK based Video Game companies and UK based Software companies. The piece looked and the different challenges each industry faces and what they can learn from one another to succeed in their global markets.

A.I. Programming for Games (C++ Module)

Explored different methods of path finding and tested different ways to represent a game map in this research based module.

Network Programming (JavaScript and C# Module)

Taught about the theory behind web connectivity, such as e-commerce and e-mail. Created a network application that utilised both UDP and TCP connections.

Languages, Platforms and Tools (Programming Research)

‘Plug-in Paradigms’. With the recent addition of the function language F# to the .NET Framework programmers have the opportunity to exploit the strengths of different paradigms in their work.

Video Game Middleware Technology (C++ Gamebryo Module)

In this module I integrated many different libraries, both commercial and freeware, into a Gamebryo application.

Small Business Start-up (Team based Research)

Lead a team of 5 students to create a business proposal for Nottingham based company, Games Workshop.
